The collection arrangement includes 277 folders in 41 boxes of preliminary design and critical design review material on the Mars Observer Spacecraft from 1986 through 1992. Collection Organization The collection contains a primary file folder list of PDRs and CDRs data packages generated by contractor GE Astro Space Division under contract number 957444. The documents in this collection include Mars Observer Attitude & Articulations Control Subsystem (AACS), Harness, Command & Data Handling, Payload, Mechanics, Power, Performance Analysis System, Structure, Propulsion System, Thermal and Telecommunications. Boxes 1 through 4 contain meteorological satellite program (DMSP) flight software training books, and AACS preliminary design reviews; Box 5 contains information relating to the harness and control interface unit critical design reviews. Boxes 6 through 12 comprise command & data handling subsystems; Box 13 through 14 contain engineering data formatter (EDF) critical design reviews, power control electronics (PCE), mechanics subsystem, and payload. Boxes 15 through 16 cover fault protection, and performance analysis system. Boxes 17 through 19 relate to the AACS independent review data package, and AACS/flight software. Boxes 20 through 21 include material relating to the signal conditioning unit (SCU), power subsystem, solar array electrical box level PDR, reaction wheel assembly, and electrical power subsystems. Boxes 22 through 23 detail Mars Observer performance analysis system unit development formatter (UDF) set CDRs. Boxes 24 through 26 reflects the MO propulsion subsystem critical design review and appendix A through C. Boxes 27 through 30 include structure subsystem critical design reviews, inputs to the missile system pre-launch safety plans, and spacecraft system test reviews. Boxes 31 through 33 include spacecraft control processor (SCP) critical design reviews, SCP-1750 CDRs, and SCP flight software CDR material. Boxes 34 through 35 comprise spacecraft system critical design review pre-review data packages, thermal subsystems, cross strap units, and proportional temperature controllers critical design reviews. Boxes 36 through 38 contain all MO telecommunications subsystem critical design reviews; Boxes 39 through 41 reflex Magellan Venus orbit insertion (VOI), verification laboratory test CDR material and closure of AACS, C&DH, Structure, Power, Telecommunication, Propulsion, Thermal and Mechanisms subsystem critical design reviews.
